My husband and I are high school sweethearts and now newlyweds! We got married after we both graduated from college-- Virginia Tech, GO HOKIES!
Hubbs was a member of the Corps of Cadets and AFROTC through college, so I've gotten a little bit of "seasoning" from that experience: Learning acronyms, obeying seemingly silly rules, working our way up the ladder, attending balls and other functions, meeting high-ranking officials, weeks apart for the first year of college while we attended different schools, and I even survived a "mini-deployment" while he went to training one summer. And although I may have some experience under my belt, I'm I'm still a total n00b! That's why I'm calling this blog "Crossing into the Blue," because I've married into the Air Force and I have a lot to learn.
I call myself an "offbeat Air Force wife" (OAFW?!) because of my physical appearance.. I'm sure the last thing you'd ever picture when you hear the words "military wife" is a tiny white girl with dreadlocks and peace & love tattoos! Of course we all know that you shouldn't base your opinions on peoples' physical appearances... but what is that hippie doing married to the military?! I hear ya! I hope you'll stick with me-- this nappy-headed, recyclin' hippie-- to see that there's much more to me than what meets the eye. I married my best friend and true love, and if the Air Force is what he wants to do, I'm behind him one-hundred percent and I will always support his dreams-- I bet you and I have that in common.
Also, I don't have kids and I don't plan on having kids for a whiiiiile. Many writers of military spouse blogs that I've seen have been married for many years and have multiple babies (maybe I'm looking in the wrong place for military blogs??). While I do think that's awesome, sometimes I feel like I can't fully connect because I'm just not at the same place in my life. So, all that being said, the only baby you'll be hearing about on this blog is my dog, Walker TR!
About Crossing into the Blue:
I'm starting this blog because, like many other bloggers, I need a release. For me, it's helpful to write my feelings out to better understand a situation and how I feel about it. If I can publish it to other spouses who have been through the same thing before to get advice, even better. If my experience will later help someone else, that's the best!
But this blog isn't just about feelings, so don't worry. I'll be posting random housewifey things and recipes. I'll also link articles that I find interesting and that I think would be helpful to military significant others ("milso's").
Thanks for stopping by and happy reading! Hope to hear from you! :-)
