Happy New Year!

I hope everyone enjoyed their holidays and New Year celebrations!

Being military newlyweds, this was our very first Christmas away from home that we were able to have to ourselves. Although we missed being with our family in person, we are grateful for video chat technology! Hubbs and I took our time opening gifts, enjoying our coffee, and eating my delicious Mexican barbacoa. Walker TR enjoyed opening his presents too! Here he is playing with his new Weazel Ball.. (You can tell that Hubbs was excited too, judging by his high-pitched commentary, haha!)

The End of the World?

It's dark, cloudy, and rainy where I am this morning, but at least meteors aren't falling from the sky and it's not the zombie apocalypse! Well.. not yet, at least!

So, I know I've been bad about keeping up with this blog recently.. Sorry! I'm gonna try to do a good job to condense the last few months into one post, and I probably won't write again until after the new year. But maybe!

Thanks to Facebook, I was able to meet a lot more people than I thought I would in the first two months of being in a new town. I was also pleasantly surprised at how many young, recently married couples without children there are at this base!

For Thanksgiving, I had figured that Hubbs and I would just celebrate by ourselves. It would be our very first married Thanksgiving that we wouldn't be travelling around to different family's houses and stuffing our bellies at 3-4 turkey dinners in on day. Phew! So I compiled a Pinterest board (you know me) with all kinds of fun Thanksgiving recipes that I could reduce to make just enough for the two of us.

PCS Success!

Well hey, y'all!!

I bet you thought I had forgotten all about you. Not true! I posted a while back about finally getting PCS orders, and in the last two months, we've been incredibly busy getting everything sorted out, moved, and resettled.

So let me tell you all about my very first Permanent Change of Station. Kick back and relax-- this is gonna be a good one. :)

When we were notified of our PCS date, we had less than a month to get ready and go.. (More after the jump!)

Autumn Pinterest Projects

If y'all haven't figured out that I'm Pinterest-obsessed by now, you might just be totally clueless! ;-)

Here's the thing about pin boards. I'd say that for most people, it's a way to waste away the hours looking at cool projects you'll never do, food recipes you'll never make, clothes you'll never wear, interior designs that you'll never recreate... etc etc. You know, picturing this dream life for yourself that you'll never make happen. I think people's wedding boards are probably more realistic.. I, for one, basically planned the entirety of my wedding through Pinterest!

For me, Pinterest is a great visualization tool...

PCSing!

So last week, when I was all stressing out about not having orders yet, Hubbs finally got his orders! This is very good news, because I was worried that something had gone wrong in the paperwork or that he had been forgotten about, and that he might not go Active until another 9 months from now. But, luckily everything's great.. the orders were what we were expecting: same date, same place.. so we're happy and good to go!

He even got me "Orders Flowers!" (See the picture after the jump!)

Autumn!!!

Y'all, I'm so excited for Fall this year! I love all the pumpkin-flavored goodies, the pumpkin beer(!!), the cinnamon/nutmeg/clove spices, and the yummy-smelling candles.

If you're following me on Pinterest, I hope you've enjoyed all the fun stuff I've pinned to my Autumn Pin Board recently! I'm actually planning to make some goodies tonight...

Hurry Up and Wait

I guess this could be the motto of a military spouse or significant other. Whether it's a deployment or waiting for orders, we're always waitin' around for something!

In my case, Hubbs and I have had our whole lives switched up in the last year because his tentative orders had been changed. Last May (2011), he found out that he had been selected for a rated slot, so our first stop would have been in sunny Florida for training immediately after graduation (this past May 2012). Well, we had that mindset for a good 9 months, and when he hadn't gotten his orders by the time everyone else was receiving them, he got worried and went to go find out what was wrong. Somewhere along the lines, it got lost in the paperwork that his job had been changed. No one bothered to let us know, and he was now unassigned, and was given 24 hours to create a new dream sheet of bases. Then we waited around for another 2 months for them to tell us [good news] that they found us a home, but [bad news] it wasn't any of the bases we put on our dream sheet.

Everything in this whole entering Active Duty process has been a waiting game full of "tentative" information. Here we are-- 3 months after graduation and we're tentatively supposed to be starting our new life next month, but nothing's official!

It makes me so crazy that even once he gets his official orders, things are still liable to change up until the very last minute. Like, everything can change: job, base, date. Nothing's official til he gets to where he's going and he reports in. So frustrating, right?!

I can't give my current employer a specific date that I'll be leaving, and I can't even look for a new job. I'm not going to waste my time researching job opportunities in a specific area if there's any possibility that I may not end up there. We can't tell our families what to expect for our lives in the coming future, and we can't tell our current landlord when we'll be moving out-- thank goodness he's totally cool and flexible.

I'm worried that the transition is going to be very last-minute and stressful. I've posted before about being a planner, and if the Air Force decides to only give me 3 days notice of what's happening, I'm going to have a freak-out. It would be exciting, definitely, but it makes me crazy thinking that that could actually happen!

Does anyone out there have a fun story they'd like to share about having to pack up and leave (or deal with the military changing plans) at a moment's notice?
How do you deal with the stress of not knowing what the military has in store for you and your family's near future?
